Johor polls: PPP leaves it to BN, but wants to contest two seats, says president

JOHOR BARU: The People's Progressive Party (PPP) has informed Barisan Nasional of its intention to contest two seats in the upcoming state election, says party president Datuk Dr Logan Bala Mohan.

He said, however, that the party will continue to support Barisan even if it is not offered any seats in the state polls.

"I met with Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi recently to express our support for the coalition and assure him that we will do our best to secure Barisan's victory.

"In the meeting, I also informed him that we are interested in contesting two seats, but we leave it entirely to him and will not put any pressure on him.

"If they feel this is not the right time, we understand. We will not make demands or sulk if we do not get any seats," he said.

He said this at a press conference after chairing a PPP high council meeting at a hotel here on Saturday (June 6).

Logan Bala Mohan said the party's machinery has begun work to assist Barisan in winning the election.

"We have started preparing for the election and will continue working on the ground to assist Barisan in this election.

"Barisan has asked us to focus on several areas, and we have divided the tasks among our high council members," he said.

He added that the party is also looking into contesting two state seats in Negri Sembilan.

"We have yet to meet with the Barisan leaders in Negri Sembilan, but we will inform them of our intention when we meet them," he said.
