PORT DICKSON: Independent candidate Islah Wahyudi Zainudin is expected to be charged under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 over a social media post.
In a sighted notice, Islah Wahyudi, who is contesting the Sri Tanjung seat, has been ordered to appear at the Sepang Sessions Court on Aug 11 to face charges under Section 233 of the Act.
The charges relate to his social media post on Jan 14 this year questioning why many locations in Negri Sembilan still had English names instead of Malay.
He is expected to be charged for uploading content with the intent of hurting others.
Under the Act, a person who commits an offence shall, on conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding RM500,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years; or both and shall be liable to a further fine of RM5,000 for every day during which the offence is continued after conviction.
Islah Wahyudi is among the five candidates contesting the Sri Tanjung seat.
Also contesting are Pakatan Harapan's Datuk Dr G Rajasekaran, who is the incumbent, Barisan Nasional's A. Achutan, Bersatu's M. Leevineshwaraan and another Independent Datuk A. Saravanan.
