Gunung Batu Putih SAR: Surveillance footage captured missing hiker moving towards Kem Sukaneka

IPOH: The hiker who went missing at Gunung Batu Putih has been seen on surveillance footage moving towards Kem Sukaneka.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Sayani Saidon said images from one of two cameras retrieved by Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) and Forestry Department members captured Jaslinda Saludin, 49, on May 24 at about 11.20am.

"Images from the camera supported the hypothesis that the victim was moving towards Kem Sukanena, as evidenced by the discovery of shoe prints and water bottles found earlier.

"There are two junctions after the camera which lead to Kem Sukaneka and the water point," she said in a statement on Saturday (May 30).

Sayani said the path to the water point was blocked with a wooden path to indicate that it was not part of the trail, adding that there were no images of the victim turning back and crossing the camera’s path again.

"The same camera also caught images of eight Fire and Rescue Department Special Tactical Operation and Rescue Team of Malaysia (STORM) members and mountain guides at 5.15pm on May 25," she added.

Jaslinda was part of a hiking expedition on the Trans Spencer Chapman trail on May 23 along with 13 other individuals and two mountain guides.

She and another hiker, Mohd Hanafi Neikmad, 41, reportedly experienced health issues and stopped, but Jaslinda subsequently continued the journey to the mountain summit and was last seen on May 24 at 7.30am.

Meanwhile, Sayani said a member of the fire department sustained injuries to his thigh, knee and ankle on Friday (May 29) night between Kem Kantoi and Sungai Busok.

"He has been brought down and sent down to base camp," she said, adding that some 43 members of the search and rescue party are still in the forest.
