Travel time advisory issued for those driving to east coast over Aidiladha

KUANTAN: AFA Prime Bhd, the concession holder for the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) and the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 (LPT1), has announced a travel time advisory for motorists travelling during the Aidiladha festive period.

It said this was aimed at reducing congestion at critical locations, particularly at the Gombak, Bentong and Karak toll plazas, which serve as the main gateways to the east coast.

For the "balik kampung" travel phase from Kuala Lumpur or Selangor to Pahang on May 23, 24 and 26, motorists are advised to enter the highway between 10am and 2pm, as well as from 4pm to 6pm, it said.

"For motorists travelling to Terengganu, the recommended travel times are between 8am and 10am and from 6pm to 8pm, while those heading to Kelantan are advised to travel between 6am and 8am, as well as from 8 pm to 10 pm," it said in a statement on Friday (May 22).

Meanwhile, for the return journey to Kuala Lumpur on June 1 and 2, motorists travelling from Pahang are advised to enter the highway between 6am and 10am and from 7pm to 11pm.

The company said that motorists travelling from Terengganu are advised to begin their journey between 11am and 2pm and from 8pm to 10pm, while those from Kelantan are encouraged to travel between 6pm and 9pm, as well as from 11pm to midnight.

It also encouraged highway users to take advantage of the "free travel hours" period between midnight and 6am for a smoother journey.

AFA Prime also said that all highway facilities would be maintained at optimum levels throughout the festive season, while patrol units and emergency response teams would be stationed at strategic locations to provide immediate assistance when needed.

Light vehicle users are also advised to avoid peak express bus hours at the Gombak toll plaza between 9.30am and noon, as well as from 9.30pm to midnight, to help minimise congestion, it added. – Bernama
