PETALING JAYA: About 62% of tickets for the Electric Train Service (ETS) and additional ETS services for the Hari Raya Aidiladha travel period have been sold, says Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).

The rail operator said 204 extra train services would be offered to travellers as it prepares for the balik kampung exodus.

KTMB said the additional services involving ETS and Electric Multiple Unit Plus (EMUPlus) trains would run from May 22 to June 7 in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha and school holidays.

The additional services would provide a total of 64,464 extra seats throughout the period.

Among the routes involved are KL Sentral-Padang Besar-KL Sentral; KL Sentral-Butterworth-KL Sentral; KL Sentral-Ipoh-KL Sentral; KL Sentral-JB Sentral-KL Sentral; Gemas-JB Sentral-Gemas; as well as Klang-Ipoh-Klang for the EMUPlus service.

For east coast services, KTMB said it would add two coaches to the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran service and introduce a special Ekspres Lambaian Aidiladha (ELA) service involving two special train trips.

The rail operator said a total of 912 additional tickets would be offered for the ELA service while another 2,040 seats would be made available through the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran service.

KTMB also announced a 30% discount for the ELA 1029 train service from Tumpat to KL Sentral for the Superior Seater category involving 274 limited seats.

Tickets for the additional ETS and EMUPlus services have been on sale since May 9.

They are sold through the KITS Style application, KTMB’s official website and ticket kiosks.

“As of May 15, 62% of tickets for ETS and additional ETS services have been sold while tickets for the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran service for the May 22 to June 7 travel period have been fully sold out.

“We expect the balance tickets to be fully sold out soon as ticket sales continue to increase from time to time,” it said in a statement.

“The demand this year appears stronger as Hari Raya Aidiladha coincides with the school holidays, as well as the long weekends for Wesak Day and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s birthday,” it added.
