Light plane makes emergency landing


Emergency touchdown: Both flight instructor and student are safe despite the rough landing.

PUTRAJAYA: Authorities are carrying out an investigation after a small aircraft with two people on board made an emergency landing during a training flight in Langkawi, says the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).

In a statement, it said the incident involved a Diamond Aircraft model DA-40 bearing registration number 9M-HMJ, which landed in the vicinity of Kuah yesterday.

“The aircraft departed Langkawi International Airport at 9.54am for a scheduled training flight, and the last communication with Langkawi air traffic control tower was recorded at 10.29am,” it said in a statement, Bernama reported.

CAAM said both occupants of the aircraft, including the pilot, were reported safe.

The statement said an investigation into the accident will be carried out by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry, in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.
