KUALA LANGAT: A 15-year-old girl was charged in a Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court here on Friday (July 10) with attempting to murder her friend in a stabbing incident at a secondary school in Banting here, Sinar Harian reports.
No plea was recorded from the juvenile accused pending her psychiatric evaluation report, the Malay language daily reported.
The closed-door proceedings before Magistrate Maslinda Selamat were also attended by the accused’s family members.
The court allowed the prosecution’s application for the teenager, who was wearing a black hoodie, to undergo a mental health examination at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak.
According to the charge sheet, the Form Three student is accused of attempting to murder a 15-year-old female student with a knife, causing injuries, with intent to cause death.
The offence was allegedly committed at the school at 9.50am on July 6.
The charge was framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years upon conviction.
During proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Amirul Syafiq Yazid agreed for the teenager, who was reported to have autism, to undergo a mental examination under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The court fixed Aug 11 for mention.
Media personnel who arrived earlier were not allowed into the courtroom to follow the proceedings as the case involved a juvenile accused.
Earlier, it was reported that a 15-year-old female student was injured after she was believed to have been stabbed 16 times with a knife by her schoolmate at the school canteen during recess.
In the 9.30am incident, the victim suffered injuries to several parts of her body, including her lungs, and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.
