KUALA LUMPUR: A major police crackdown on synthetic drugs targeting entertainment outlets has led to the dismantling of a trafficking syndicate and the arrest of seven of its members.
The success follows a series of coordinated raids under "Ops Musca," led by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID). The operation spanned five locations across the Klang Valley and Pahang.
NCID Director Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan disclosed the details during a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur contingent headquarters on Friday (July 10). He revealed that police seized a massive haul of narcotics, including 84.3kg of MDMA powder and 4.4kg of ecstasy pills, with a total estimated street value of RM13.2mil.
"The syndicate is believed to have been active since January this year," Comm Hussein said. "Our investigations show that the group utilised luxury condominiums as storage facilities and packaging hubs before distributing the supplies to entertainment outlets across the Klang Valley and Kuantan."
In addition to the narcotics, police also confiscated RM1.28mil worth of syndicate assets, including 10 vehicles.
The seven suspects arrested are aged 25 to 35. Initial screenings revealed that four of them tested positive for methamphetamine. Only one suspect had a prior criminal record, which was related to a gambling offence.
All suspects have been remanded to assist with ongoing investigations.
"The NCID remains deeply committed to combating drug trafficking to safeguard both current and future generations," Comm Hussein stressed. "Drugs remain the nation's number one enemy."
