Chegubard apologises to Nik Nazmi, defamation suit settled

KUALA LUMPUR: Political activist Badrul Hisham Shaharin settled a defamation lawsuit brought against him by former minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad by making an open apology at the High Court.

In his apology before Justice Gan Techiong yesterday, Badrul Hisham, or better known as Chegubard, admitted that his allegations against Nik Nazmi were false and baseless.

“I retract all my allegations against YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

“I sincerely apologise to YB Nik Nazmi for the humiliation, distress and inconvenience caused.

“I hereby give an undertaking not to repeat or publish any statements on the same matter or to the same effect,” he said.

Badrul Hisham also said he would remove statements relating to the matter from his social media account.

Earlier, Nik Nazmi’s lawyer Razlan Hadri Zulkifli informed the court that both parties had agreed to settle out of court, which was confirmed by Badrul Hisham’s lawyer Zolazrai Zolkapli.

When met by the press, Nik Nazmi said he accepted the defendant’s apology as he did not want to prolong the matter.

On Jan 15, 2024, Nik Nazmi filed legal action against Badrul Hisham.

He claimed that Badrul Hisham had uploaded defamatory statements alleging corruption involving him and a flood mitigation project via the Facebook account “Che GuBard” on Dec 20 and 29, 2023.
