Unity Ministry to coordinate talks on unregistered places of worship, says Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has directed the National Unity Ministry to spearhead discussions to resolve the issue of unregistered places of worship across the country, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

The government spokesman said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued the directive during the weekly Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (May 6).

"The Cabinet discussed the issue of unregistered places of worship. Following this, the Prime Minister has instructed the National Unity Ministry to coordinate further discussions to manage and resolve this matter," he said in his weekly briefing.

Fahmi added that the discussions would involve several key ministries and agencies, including the Housing and Local Government Ministry, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry, Home Ministry, Federal Territories Department and other stakeholders.

On another matter, Fahmi said the Cabinet was also briefed on the low water supply situation affecting several states.

He noted that water reserves at several dams were at critical levels due to the ongoing dry spell.

"Various mitigation steps are being looked into, which include cloud seeding efforts," he said.
