Search begins for man missing after boat crash off Mengalum island in Sabah


KOTA KINABALU: A man was reported missing after falling into the sea following a boat crash off Mengalum island near here.

The victim, identified as Nur Amin, 21, was reported missing on May 4 after the boat he was on collided with another vessel at about 9.30am.

"After the accident, the victim's friends informed his colleagues and they tried searching for him but to no avail," said Kota Kinabalu Fire Station chief Ordine Gilu.

Ordine said the department received a distress call on Wednesday (May 6) morning and a search and rescue operation was immediately activated.

It was not stated what the boats were doing at sea, whether for work or leisure.

Ordine said the search operation, conducted with the police, covered a 10km radius from the area where Nur was reported missing.
