KUALA LUMPUR: Any new issues in Negri Sembilan that could trigger sensitivities or disputes should be referred to the top leadership of the unity government, said government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
According to Fahmi, the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday (May 6) was informed that issues concerning the administration of Negri Sembilan have been handled well.
“The unity government in Negri Sembilan remains under the leadership of Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and any issues that arise after this will be referred to the top leadership.
“This was based on the agreement signed between unity government component parties recently,” said Fahmi during his weekly briefing at Angkasapuri today.
Asked if the 14 Umno assemblymen in Negri Sembilan still support Aminuddin as Mentri Besar, Fahmi said the decision by the unity government now is that the status quo remains in the state.
“Therefore, they (14 assemblymen) remain supporting the unity government,” said Fahmi.
On May 5, a joint statement by Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said both parties unanimously agreed to maintain the unity government framework in Negri Sembilan.
Any issues that arise, they said, must be immediately referred to the Umno-Pakatan leadership consultative council.
The political turmoil began on April 19 when the four Undang decided to remove Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir on grounds of misconduct. They did not specify the misconduct committed.
In response, the state’s Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) or council of elders, which includes the Ruler and Mentri Besar, decided to sack one of the four Undang, Datuk Seri Mubarak Dohak.
Aminuddin affirmed support on the DKU’s decision, and as a result, the four Undang called for his removal as the state Mentri Besar.
On May 5, the Sungai Ujong datuk-datuk Lembaga Adat disputed the appointment of Muhammad Faris Johari as the latest Undang (ruling chief).
On the same day, Mubarak and the three Undang in Negri Sembilan filed an originating summons at the High Court to compel the DKU secretary to provide them a copy of the minutes of a special session, which advised on Mubarak’s removal as Undang of Sungei Ujong.
