Parties reiterate support for Aminuddin

SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan parties DAP and Amanah have reiterated their support for Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to continue serving as Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar, says DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

He added any move to form a backdoor government amid political uncertainty in the state should be rejected.

“It has to be made clear that we (Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional) have an understanding to form a unity government.

“Any decision that goes against the spirit of this mandate is disrespectful to the electorate,” he added.

Loke said Aminuddin can only be removed as mentri besar through a motion of no confidence tabled against him in the state assembly, and the motion will need to receive majority support to succeed.

Another method is for the state Ruler to give his consent to appoint a new mentri besar, he added.

Loke said the state DAP held an emergency meeting where all 11 of its assemblymen, including him, agreed that Aminuddin should remain as Mentri Besar.

“What is important is that the state government will still continue to function so that all development programmes can be carried out smoothly,” he added.

State Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, who was also at the press conference, said the party would also continue to support Aminuddin as Mentri Besar.

“Apart from the Ruler, only the state legislative assembly can determine Aminuddin’s fate,” he added.

He said Amanah is disappointed with the state Barisan for withdrawing its support for Aminuddin.
