KUCHING: All primary and secondary schools under the Serian district education office (PPD) will operate as usual from Monday (Aug 17), the Sarawak Education Department says.
In a statement on Sunday, the department said any changes or latest updates would be announced from time to time, while schools have been reminded to prioritise the health and safety of students, teachers and school personnel.
"The department will continue to emphasise the welfare, health and safety of students, especially when facing hot weather or any unexpected weather conditions,” the department said.
It reminded schools to comply with standard operating procedures and refer to the Jan 15, 2019 Education Ministry circular detailing measures to ensure the health and safety of students in schools located in areas with critical haze conditions.
The department said all educational institutions under its supervision should also follow the guidelines contained in the ministry’s circular No. 3 of 2023 guiding outdoor activities during hot weather, dated June 6, 2023.
It added that schools should stay updated by referring to the Environment Department’s official portal and the Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims) to monitor air quality levels in their respective areas, while adhering to advice from the Health Ministry to safeguard the well-being of students and education personnel. - Bernama
