Time to put on a mask to face the heat and haze

PARTS of Malaysia are once again trapped in a double climate hazard. Driven by the dry Southwest Monsoon, scorching weather is pushing daily temperatures to uncomfortable heights.

It is a familiar, oppressive sting. For some, the air hits twice when stepping outside: first with a suffocating wave of heat, then with the distinct, acrid smell of burnt peat.
