AYER KEROH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced an additional RM1mil allocation for every parliamentary constituency, saying the funds would go directly to the people.
Anwar said the allocation was part of the government’s efforts to ensure development funds reached those in need, particularly communities affected by poverty and floods.
“I carry this responsibility. I promised to help the poor.
“If a problem has affected them every year for decades, with their lives disrupted by floods, I would not be comfortable being Prime Minister and allowing their homes, villages and livelihoods to be destroyed by floods,” he said during his winding-up speech on the president’s policy speech at the 2026 PKR National Congress on Sunday (Aug 16).
Anwar said the government was open to criticism over the allocation of funds to MPs, but stressed that allocations for the people had not been reduced.
“We can accept constructive criticism. But allocations have never been reduced.
“In fact, today I want to announce an additional RM1mil for every parliamentary constituency, directly for the people,” he said.
Anwar said the government’s allocations should be based on the needs of the people rather than political considerations.
He said Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah had received the highest allocations in history under the Madani administration, where urgent projects involving water, electricity and flood mitigation had been approved and implemented in the four states.
He also said he would not be distracted by personal attacks, including criticism made on podcasts.
“If you ask me, I rarely mention people’s names. They insult me on podcasts every night, but I do not respond. You know why? I have work to do.
“And we have to perform, rather than respond to every rant and fuel people’s anger,” he said.
Anwar also dismissed criticism from those who claimed they had previously been offered positions in government-linked companies (GLC).
“But now they say they were given a GLC position but did not ask for this.
“You did not come and kiss my hand to ask, but you said, ‘Prime Minister, if you can, you know I can do this. This is my expertise. If you can, I think I can provide good service’.
“I understand that. Come on, do not deny that. Enough is enough,” he said.
