Aminuddin receives royal decree to continue despite BN exit

SEREMBAN: Saying that his minority government remains functional, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun will continue to serve as Mentri Besar despite the move by 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen to withdraw support for him.

Aminuddin, now in his second term, said he had received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir to continue with his duties.

“I had conveyed the latest development related to the support of assemblymen for the state government to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

“After reasonable consideration, His Royal Highness has advised me and decreed that I continue my responsibilities as Mentri Besar until there is further clarity on this issue, in line with the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959,” he added.

Also present at the media conference held at his official residence were state DAP chief Anthony Loke and Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.

Negri Sembilan last held its election in August 2023, which saw Pakatan Harapan win 17 seats on the 36 seats state assembly.

Barisan took 14 seats while Perikatan Nasional won five seats.

He admitted he was shocked by the Barisan lawmakers’ move to withdraw support for him and his government.

“Four of their state exco had in fact discussed the state legislative assembly sitting a day before the official opening with me.

“They suggested that we proceed with the official opening but postpone the meeting, to which I agreed,” he said.

On claims that Umno was upset that he had failed to discuss the state royal crisis with them, Aminuddin said this was because whatever decision made was by the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU).

“In fact, whatever discussed in the DKU was never brought to the state exco meeting to be discussed,” he said.

To another question, Aminuddin said if the 14 Barisan assemblymen no longer had confidence in him, they should not have asked for the state assembly meeting, which was to begin yesterday, to be postponed.

“If they no longer have confidence in me, they should have allowed proceedings to continue.

“They could have tabled a motion of no confidence,” he said.

Aminuddin said he was prepared to accept whatever decision taken by the assembly on his position.
