PUTRAJAYA: DAP’s decision to remain in the unity government reflects the party’s resolve to push reforms through and to address the people’s concerns more effectively, says Chow Kon Yeow.
The Penang Chief Minister, who is also a DAP central executive committee member, said the outcome of the party’s national congress on Sunday (Aug 16) would give DAP a boost to win back public confidence in Pakatan Harapan’s struggle within the unity government.
He called on party supporters and the public to work together so that the “second chance” given to DAP and Pakatan would bear fruit ahead of the coming general election.
“I regard the 2026 DAP congress’ decision to remain in the Unity Government as a sign of DAP’s resolve to ensure the reform agenda is delivered, and that the people’s concerns are handled more effectively,” he said in a statement.
DAP delegates voted on Sunday to keep the party in the Government for the rest of the parliamentary term, at the congress held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.
The congress, held in conjunction with DAP’s 60th anniversary, saw 4,264 delegates from 1,704 branches decide the matter by secret ballot on a motion tabled by secretary-general Anthony Loke.
DAP is the largest party in the unity government, with 40 MPs, five ministers and seven deputy ministers.
The vote followed a run of state election setbacks for the party in Sabah, Johor and Negri Sembilan, where Loke lost the Chennah seat he had held for more than a decade.
