More CCTVs in KLCC area to crack down on photo touts, says Yeoh

KUALA LUMPUR: More closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in the vicinity of the Petronas Twin Towers in Jalan Ampang here to address the photo tout issue.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said her office would hold further discussions with KLCC Property Holdings Berhad and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to increase the number of CCTV cameras in areas popular among tourists.

"CCTVs are under the KLCC management. I will discuss with them, along with DBKL, to see how we can install more CCTVs so we can identify those conducting business activities without permission," she said to reporters here on Saturday (March 28).

It was reported that 18 photo touts had allegedly attacked a man and a foreign tourist at Persiaran KLCC Sunday (March 22).

Yeoh said there should be more frequent police and DBKL enforcement officer patrols.

"We do not want to see tourists and Malaysians being bullied because it also tarnishes the country's name," she said.

On Friday (March 27), Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sazalee Adam said 18 suspects were detained in the vicinity of the KLCC under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
