Authorities aware of businessman Victor Chin’s whereabouts, says Home Minister

KUALA LUMPUR: The authorities are aware of the whereabouts of businessman Victor Chin Boon Long, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

“We know where he is,” he said briefly after the 219th Police Day celebrations at Pulapol Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (March 25).

Earlier, at a press conference, Saifuddin said the case is being investigated by both the police’s Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA) unit and the Securities Commission (SC).

“Let us do it step by step. Whether or not we will eventually retract his travel documents, I will leave it to the investigation currently being conducted,” he said.

On March 16, police confirmed that they had raided several premises belonging to corporate figure Victor Chin in Kemensah and Sungai Long, Kajang.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain was reported as saying that the raids, conducted together with the SC, were carried out to assist investigations under AMLA.

Previously, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said in a statement that the Cabinet had instructed several enforcement agencies – including the police, the SC, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) – to continue in-depth investigations into corporate manipulation.

In a statement to the media, Victor denied allegations that he was involved in manoeuvres to force company takeovers purportedly linked to MACC officials.
