SUBANG: Pakatan Harapan is confident that DAP will decide to remain in the Madani Government at its national conference on Sunday (Aug 16).
Pakatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said he believed DAP would put the national interest first to ensure the political stability achieved so far would continue.
“I believe the DAP leadership has the wisdom expected of a party that has been in the country for a long time.
“DAP will certainly put the national interest first, particularly political stability, while preserving and continuing the progress that has been going very well,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution, who is also Home Minister, told reporters after witnessing the handing over ceremony of the AW189 helicopter to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at the Maritime Air Station here on Thursday (Aug 13).
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke was recently reported to have said that the party would determine its position in the government on Sunday.
A motion on the matter will be tabled to delegates at the DAP National Congress before being decided by almost 4,000 eligible delegates.
The congress is also expected to determine DAP's collective direction in the country's political landscape.
The congress was originally scheduled for July 12 but was postponed to allow the party to focus on the state elections following the dissolution of the Johor and Negri Sembilan state assemblies.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said DAP was under no obligation to explain its decision to Pakatan.
“It is not DAP's responsibility to explain to Pakatan when making decisions that are in line with its own political policies and approach,” said Saifuddin, who is also PKR acting deputy president.
