PUTRAJAYA: The government is set to review work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for the public sector, with a final decision after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister revealed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and the Director-General of the Public Service Department Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz to scrutinise existing WFH proposals.
The primary objective of the review, he said, is to ensure administrative coordination across all government departments.
“The Prime Minister has requested that the Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Public Service examine the WFH proposals to ensure several matters are properly aligned.
“The outcome of these discussions will be deliberated and decided upon during the meeting next Tuesday,” he said during a press briefing here yesterday after a special Cabinet meeting.
Beyond domestic workplace policies, Fahmi said the government has shifted to a proactive standby footing regarding the volatile situation in the Middle East.
He said the Prime Minister has directed all ministries and their respective ministers to initiate immediate “engagement sessions” with industry players under their purview.
These sessions are designed to gather critical feedback, insights and data on the potential economic fallout from the ongoing unrest in the region, Fahmi added.
“Ministers have been directed to engage with their respective industries to understand the possible impact of the Middle East turmoil,” Fahmi explained.
“The findings will be presented to the Cabinet on Tuesday and industry representatives will also be invited to brief the National Economic Action Council at its upcoming meeting.”
