Black belts for 13 female Silambam exponents


THIRTEEN local female Silambam exponents, trained by their female martial arts teacher, earned their black belts together on International Women’s Day, Makkal Osai reported.

The students earned their belts during the association’s Silambam Korvai Aranggetram Vizha 2026.

Korvai Malaysia founder grandmaster Kalaimamani K. Anbalahan was honoured with a symbolic red belt for his contributions to the martial art.

The victims, identified as Ravi and Lingan from Tamil Nadu, had gone out to the shops near their home in Nilgris district.

As they were passing through a tea plantation, they were apparently confronted by a large elephant without warning.

The elephant, which had reportedly come out of the nearby forest reserve, charged at the two men.

Police said based on the scene, the men tried to run but ultimately lost their lives.
