KUALA LUMPUR: Seven Yemeni men have been arrested for performing dangerous stunts while travelling in two vehicles on a major road here.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said police launched an investigation after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
He said it occurred at 12.30am on Friday as the two vehicles were travelling along Jalan Sungai Besi towards Jalan Bukit Bintang.
Preliminary investigations found that passengers leaned out of the moving vehicles and sat on the windows.
ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the men, aged between 23 and 26, performed the stunts for fun while celebrating a friend’s wedding.
“Five of them are students at a public university in Kedah, while the other two are university graduates,” he said in a statement yesterday, adding that the group had been released on police bail.
The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for committing a rash or negligent act that endangers the life or personal safety of others.
Those convicted face up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500 or both.
ACP Mohd Zamzuri also urged witnesses or those with information to assist the investigation by contacting the Tun H S Lee Traffic Police Station or any police station.
