Cops open probe over alleged defamation of personnel

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation paper regarding a Facebook post that allegedly contained defamatory statements against police officers at a petrol station in Batu 14, Puchong, Selangor.

Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said his department received a report from a police officer who was on duty at the time of the incident at 10.54pm on Friday.

“The police have opened an investigation paper following the allegations under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“The owner of the account will be traced immediately to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the post uploaded by the owner of the Facebook account using the name ‘Izz Fairuzz’ was traced after it went viral on social media, reported Bernama.

According to Wan Azlan, the post claimed that a police patrol vehicle blocked traffic while the personnel involved were allegedly waiting for food from a foreign trader at the petrol station without paying.

In this regard, he advised the public not to make any speculation regarding the allegations that went viral on social media.

He also asked individuals with information related to the incident to contact the Subang Jaya IPD district control centre at 03-7862 7100.

He said the identity of the informant would be kept confidential.
