IPOH: The Housing and Local Government Ministry, through Wisma Putra, is doing everything possible to assist in the search for two Fire and Rescue Department officers who remain missing in Nepal.
Minister Nga Kor Ming urged Malaysians to pray for the safety and well-being of the two “Wira Merah” and hope that they would be found and rescued.
He said the ministry and the department were maintaining close contact with the families of the two personnel and would convey any latest information once received.
“Our hearts remain with them. We continue to pray every moment for their safety. Both are among our outstanding personnel,” he told reporters after launching the three-day “Jom Makan Ipoh 2026 Expo” at Palo 101 here last night. (Aug 29)
Both of the officers are among Malaysians who remain uncontactable following flash floods in Rasuwa, Nepal.
The two officers are professional climber Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa, who is also a member of the department's special forces team, and senior Fire and Rescue Department officer Mohd Sani Harul.
At the event, Nga, the Kepayang assemblyman, said the event would be added to Tourism Perak’s calendar, and that they would try to establish Jom Makan Ipoh as one of Ipoh’s distinctive brands.
“We can already see the success of the three-day event, with large crowds coming in, particularly during this weekend holiday.
“Five food maps featuring Ipoh eateries have been designed to
further stimulate the local economy, particularly when tourists come to the state.
“We are encouraging them to use the QR code so that they can easily find eateries,” he said.
He added that Jom Makan Ipoh also promoted environmental sustainability, with food waste collected at a central collection point to be turned into fertiliser.
Nga said the initiative was part of efforts to promote the circular economy.
“We are using Jom Makan Ipoh as a platform to educate the public, so that they can understand the importance of developing a sustainable and environmentally friendly economy,” he said.
