KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will announce several key initiatives in his National Day address today.
He said he would touch on issues affecting the people, their daily lives and the responsibility of the current generation to appreciate the country’s independence.
“I will deliver the National Day address tomorrow afternoon,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.
“Nearly seven decades have passed since the country gained independence.
“We remember the struggles and sacrifices of previous generations who paved the way with their sweat, blood and tears.
“At the same time, we must also reflect on the responsibility of the current generation to uphold and give meaning to our independence,” he said, Bernama reported.
In the same post, Anwar urged Malaysians to celebrate National Day by strengthening the spirit of unity and rejecting any incitement that could fuel hatred among people of different races and religions.
He said this was important to ensure peace and the well-being of the people are preserved.
