A TEENAGE boy hopes that receiving his birth certificate will finally enable him to attend school, Harian Metro reported.
Muhammad Hairul Nor Azman, 16, and two of his younger siblings received their birth certificates at the National Registration Department (JPN) recently.
“I hope I can go to school after this,” he said after receiving his birth certificate alongside his siblings, Nurul Salina, eight, and Muhammad Arif Denial, six.
Muhammad Hairul said possessing the document would make him feel safer when outside.
“I plan to go to school because I want to improve my family’s circumstances.”
Their mother, Derce Jush, said she was grateful that three of her six children had finally obtained birth certificates after years of uncertainty.
She said she learned about the documents about two weeks ago and sought help from Seri Putra Youth Organisation representative Mohd Faizal Ibrahim and Sri Mawar Apartment Residents Association chairman Hasrina Hamid, who accompanied the family to JPN.
The six siblings had been unable to attend school because they lacked complete birth documents.
Their Malaysian father died last year.

“I panicked when I saw six wild elephants emerge from the nearby forest, just 30m from the excavator I was operating,” said Muhammad Haikal Farhan Mohamad, 24.
“I ducked inside the excavator cab because I was afraid they would spot me.”
Muhammad Haikal said the elephants moved through the plantation, with two trampling his motorcycle parked nearby.
He added that the animals also uprooted several young palm trees.
Terengganu Perhilitan director Dennis Ten Choon Yung said officers were deployed to the area and successfully drove the herd back into a nearby forest reserve.
