Authorities uncover 22 more e-waste containers in Port Klang operation

PETALING JAYA: Authorities have uncovered anotehr 22 containers of electronic waste (e-waste) at Port Klang as part of Ops Green Shield 17.

Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Port Klang Entry Control commander Deputy Comm Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said inspections carried out by the Port Klang E-waste Joint Task Force began at 9.30am on Monday (March 9).

“A total of 54 containers were inspected today, and 22 containers were found to contain e-waste weighing 510,461kg.

“Another 19 containers contained mixed waste and scrap that did not comply with import requirements, and these have been handed over to Sirim for further action,” he said in a statement.

DCP Nik Ezanee added that more than 3,000 tonnes of e-waste have been identified since Ops Green Shield began.

“From Ops Green Shield 1 to Ops Green Shield 17, the total weight of detected e-waste is estimated at 3,328.36 tonnes, involving 163 containers found to contain electronic waste.

“The operation is being carried out as an enforcement measure to combat the illegal import of electronic waste into the country,” he said.

Monday’s inspection was conducted to continue verifying a container list provided by the Customs Department and Port Klang Authority in 2025.

“The e-waste containers will be placed in a secure area while awaiting instructions from the Environment Department for re-export,” he said.
