Perak single mums under e-Kasih to get one-off RM50

IPOH: Nearly 2,000 single mothers registered with e-Kasih will receive a one-off RM50 contribution from the Perak government to join the i-Suri and i-Saraan schemes.

State women, family, social welfare and entrepreneur development committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said the initiative aims to appreciate and provide social protection for single mothers from the poor and hardcore poor categories, in conjunction with this year’s state Women’s Day celebration.

“Some RM98,950 has been allocated for this purpose, benefiting 1,979 women. We hope this initiative will give self-employed women the opportunity to contribute voluntarily and enjoy government incentives, ensuring a more secure future in old age,” she said at the launch of the celebration yesterday.

i-Suri is a voluntary Employees Provident Fund contribution scheme for housewives in Malaysia, while i-Saraan is designed for self-employed individuals without a fixed income to save for retirement.

Salbiah explained that recipients who contribute will receive a government incentive of 50% of their total savings.

“For example, with the initial RM50 and monthly contributions reaching RM600 by the end of the year, the government will add an additional RM300. Recipients’ heirs will also be eligible for a death benefit incentive of RM2,500,” she said.
