Cops tracking down group over cable theft in Shah Alam


PETALING JAYA: Police are tracking down a group of men suspected of stealing cables in Seksyen 2, Shah Alam, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Ramsay Embol said police received a report from a witness who resides in the area.

"The incident is believed to have taken place at about 6am on May 2.

"The complainant also came forward to lodge a police report after discovering the suspicious activity,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 3).

He said the video showed a group of unidentified men using a four-wheel-drive vehicle, allegedly involved in stealing cables in the wee hours.

“The estimated losses are still under investigation,” he said.

ACP Ramsay said investigations are being carried out under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine upon conviction.

Members of the public are advised to contact 999 or the IPD Shah Alam hotline at 03-5520 2032 if they notice any suspicious activity.

Those with further information should contact the investigating officer, Insp Mohammad Amirul Zulkifli, at 012-558 3436 to assist in the investigation.
