Driver killed, two injured in Marudi car-lorry collision


MIRI: A driver was killed while two passengers were injured when their car collided with a lorry at the junction of Long Laput, about six kilometres from Jalan Long Lama, Baram, Marudi, on Sunday (May 3).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that they received a call about the crash at 11.39am and a team from the Marudi Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location.

The woman driver, 41, was pinned in the seat of her car, while a girl, 19, and boy, four, suffered injuries and were sent to a nearby hospital by ambulance before the firefighters arrived.

"The victim was pronounced dead by medical officers and her body was extricated from the car with special equipment by the firefighters and handed to the police for further action,” the department said in a statement.

The male lorry driver, 46, was unhurt. — Bernama
