Unidentified body retrieved from Taiping river

IPOH: The body of an unidentified man was recovered from Sungai Jebong in Taiping after it was discovered by members of the public on Sunday (May 3).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the body was discovered in the river along Jalan Izzudin Shah.

He said firefighters received an emergency call at 6.45pm regarding the incident.

A team from the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene seven minutes later and was informed by police that the victim’s body was trapped in a pile of rubbish along the riverbank.

“Firefighters were deployed down the riverbank to retrieve the body before placing it in a body bag and bringing it up to the bank,” he said in a statement.

He said police later conducted an inspection and investigation at the scene, but no identification documents were found on the victim.

The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action.

The operation was brought under control at 7pm and concluded at 7.30pm.

A total of nine personnel, assisted by one fire rescue tender and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, were involved in the operation.
