PETALING JAYA: Perlis police confirm receiving a report alleging that a shrine had the "Allah" inscription in the premises of a hardware shop in Seriab, Perlis.
State police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim said the Kangar district police received the report at 2.30pm on Sunday (May 3) but upon arriving at the business premises to verify the claim, found that the word “Allah” was no longer present at the shrine.
“Following this, police will conduct further investigations based on the report. We will look at all aspects, including identifying the individual who recorded the video, as well as taking a statement from the owner of the premises,” he said in a statement on the same day.
Muhammad added that police are also working with the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) to assist in the investigation, and the appropriate legal provisions for the case will be determined after obtaining the department’s views.
Earlier, the Kangar Umno Youth lodged a police report over the alleged placement of the word “Allah” at the shrine.
Its chief Saiful Fariddil Jasmi said the movement viewed the matter seriously as it touched on the sanctity of the word and the sensitivities of Muslims.
Acting on a complaint, Saiful went to the shop to seek an explanation from the owner. He said the owner admitted to the matter and apologised for the act.
“However, to safeguard the sanctity of Islam and ensure such incidents do not recur, a police report has been lodged so that a thorough investigation can be carried out,” he said in a statement posted on Facebook.
Saiful also urged the authorities to take the matter seriously and conduct a detailed probe under existing laws, as well as introduce clearer guidelines and firm enforcement against any misuse of Islamic religious terms.
Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop, when contacted, confirmed receiving the report and said a statement would be issued soon.
