Boy, 10, killed in three-vehicle crash in Kampar

IPOH: A 10-year-old boy was killed in a three-vehicle crash involving two cars and a Toyota Hilux at KM29.4 of Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur on Friday (May 1) night.

Kampar OCPD Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud said the 44-year-old driver of the Hilux tested positive for ganja.

He said the accident occurred at about 10.35pm along the federal road.

He added that initial investigations found that the Hilux driver, a self-employed man from Kampar, was travelling from Ipoh towards Kampar when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and veered into the opposite lane.

“The Hilux then collided with a Perodua Bezza and a Perodua Myvi that were travelling straight in the opposite direction.

“The 10-year-old front passenger of the Bezza, identified as Jayden Leong Zhi Yung, suffered severe head and leg injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement on Saturday (May 2).

Supt Mohamad Nazri said the Bezza driver, a 46-year-old man, and a 13-year-old rear passenger sustained minor injuries to the head and legs.

They were taken by ambulance to Kampar Hospital for treatment.

The drivers of the Hilux and the Myvi escaped unhurt.

“The driver has been arrested and the case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death,” he said.
