PUTRAJAYA: Anti-graft authorities are investigating several matters involving IJM Corporation Bhd, including a suspected money laundering case being probed by Britain’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO), as well as allegations linked to a project and a share acquisition by Sunway Group.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki (pic) said the commission is cooperating with the SFO over a suspected money laundering case involving about RM2.5bil believed to have been invested in Britain.
“We are collaborating with them and will obtain further information. At the same time, we are also sharing information as part of the investigation,” he told reporters at the MACC headquarters on Wednesday (March 4).
He added that the exchange of information and evidence between the two agencies is ongoing.
Separately, Azam said the MACC is also probing allegations of bribery linked to a project involving the company.
“We have recorded a number of statements, and there are still many aspects that need to be investigated in this matter,” he said.
Azam also said the MACC had opened another investigation into Sunway’s takeover of IJM shares, focusing on possible governance issues, abuse of power and corruption.
"The matter has attracted the commission’s attention as it involves public funds, with several government-linked companies (GLCs) holding significant stakes in IJM.
“We received reports and opened an investigation into the takeover of the shares," he said.
Azam said a number of witnesses have been called in to assist with the probe, particularly regarding the sale of shares to Sunway.
“We are examining many aspects of the acquisition, including whether any offences were committed, as well as issues of governance or possible leakages,” he added.
