KUALA LUMPUR: While there are allegations of sabotage and foreign interference, the government remains vigilant against any threat aimed at destabilising the administration and undermining national sovereignty, says the Prime Minister.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the alleged efforts involved the use of influence and funding by certain parties, following strong public and government condemnation of the Israeli regime’s violence in Palestine, as well as the recent strikes on Iran.
Malaysia, he said, would not allow any foreign government or company to interfere in its affairs.
“I can only assure you that we will be vigilant. Vigilance and preparedness are necessary.
“The issue of national sovereignty, the dignity of the people, require unity among Members of Parliament,” he said in his winding up speech on the motion condemning the attack on Iran by Israel and the United States.
Anwar said the matter warrants a thorough investigation as it is deeply concerning.
“Historically, during the early years of Merdeka, there were threats posed by the Malayan Communist Party (PKM), which also received external assistance.
“We must not allow such possibility to happen again that could threaten the security of our country.”
Anwar was responding to a question by Kota Baru MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hasan, who raised the statement by Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, confirming an investigation into an alleged attempt to overthrow the government and destabilise the country.
On Feb 27, Mohd Khalid said the probe involved prominent individuals who allegedly engaged a media consulting firm based in England to launch a smear campaign against the government and the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Anwar said Malaysia will use its diplomatic ties, including with Russia and China, to call for a ceasefire in current conflict over Iran.
“Whether through Asean, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and also our good relations with Arab countries, whatever we need to do, we will always provide cooperation.”
