Police to record 14 more statements over govt sabotage plot, says IGP

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

KUALA LUMPUR: About 14 more statements will be recorded in the ongoing investigation into an alleged attempt to sabotage the Govt, police say.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, at a press conference today, said that the police have already completed the recording of 14 statements as part of their investigations.

"I have been informed by the Criminal Investigation Department that statements have been taken from 14 individuals. We are still reviewing them and conducting further investigations, and there are a few more individuals from whom we may take statements.

"I understand that there are about 14 more people whose statements will be recorded. God willing, once everything is complete, we will conclude and submit everything to the attorney general-general's office.

"As for the individuals involved, I do not want to comment on any specific names as the investigation is still ongoing. Let us complete the process first, and God willing, once it is finished, we will call for the next press conference," he said.

On Feb 26, the IGP said that a police report was received concerning the issue, which allegedly involves an influential local individual and an international media agency.

The case is being investigated under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which relates to activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.

In a separate statement, the Attorney General's Chambers stressed that any party found to be involved, if proven, must be held accountable under existing laws, regardless of position or background.
