Ticket prices for Taiping Zoo to increase from March 15

IPOH: Admission to the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari will cost more starting March 15, with rising operational costs quoted as the reason for the increase.

Taiping Municipal Council president Mohamed Akmal Dahalan said the new ticket structure, the first price review since 2013, covers both daytime entry to the zoo and the Night Safari.

"The adjustment takes into account rising operational costs, including animal welfare and veterinary care, habitat maintenance, public facility upkeep, safety, infrastructure improvements and higher animal feed prices," he said in a statement on Sunday (March 1).

Mohamed Akmal said as part of its social commitment, persons with disabilities (OKU) and children below three years old would continue to enjoy free admission.

"With an average attendance of about 600,000 visitors annually, the zoo houses more than 1,300 animals from 120 species across a 36ha area, featuring a 2.5km pedestrian walkway," he said.

From 8.30am-6pm, Malaysian visitors to Taiping Zoo will pay RM25.00 (adults 13-59) RM12 (children three-12), RM10 (senior citizens) while for the Night Safari (8pm- 11pm), adults will pay RM30, children (RM15) and senior citizens (RM10).

Ticket prices for non-citizens are adults (RM40), children (RM20) and senior citizens (RM20); while for the Night Safari, adults (RM50), children (RM25) and senior citizens (RM20).

All ticket rates include tram service.
