Immigration nabs 50 illegal immigrants in Kulai

JOHOR BARU: Fifty undocumented migrants have been nabbed during an enforcement operation in Kulai.

Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the Ops Sapu raid, carried out at about 12.30am on Tuesday (July 28), targeted premises used to house undocumented migrants.

He said several suspects tried to flee but were quickly apprehended.

"Some were hiding under beds and in confined spaces.

"However, all of them were successfully tracked down and detained," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 28).

Mohd Rusdi said those detained comprised 31 Myanmar men, eight Indonesian men, two Bangladeshi men, six Myanmar women, two Indonesian women and one Vietnamese woman.

He said checks found that the detainees, aged from 18 to 40, did not possess valid travel documents or had overstayed their permitted period of stay.

"They have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation and action," he said.
