IPOH: A 17-year-old boy was found dead after being swept away by the current in Sungai Kampar near a resort in Gopeng, Perak.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a distress call about the incident at 1.45pm.
“His friend contacted the 999 emergency hotline, while personnel from the Tronoh Water Search and Rescue Team, who were conducting training at the same location, immediately responded,” he said in a statement.
A surface search operation was subsequently launched at the location where the victim was reported missing.
“The victim was found about 10 minutes later, approximately 15 to 20 metres from the spot where he had entered the river,” Sabarodzi said.
He added that after the victim was brought out of the water, firefighters provided first aid and performed continuous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about an hour until personnel from the Health Ministry and police arrived at the scene.
“The medical officer examined the victim and pronounced him dead at the scene.
“The victim’s body was later handed over to the police for further action,” Sabarodzi said.
