Earlier, Pontian OCPD Supt Hadzrat Hussien Mion Hussain said the victim had been identified as Albert Tan Siang Fook, a subcontractor at a bus body manufacturer in Kulai.

The victim and his adopted son left the Bumbung Biru jetty in Tanjung Ayer Hitam, Kayu Ara Pasong, at about 8am on Sunday.

They departed from the jetty on a boat before it apparently struck a piece of wood, causing the victim to fall into the river some 800m from the jetty.

The victim’s son managed to save himself by holding on to the boat.
