MUAR: Twenty-six undocumented immigrant workers were detained in a joint operation codenamed Ops Bersepadu within the Muar district.
Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operation was conducted on Tuesday (Feb 10), starting at 9am.
He said 23 officers from the Muar Immigration Enforcement Division and the Muar police were involved in the operation.
“We want to address the presence of illegal immigrant workers in the Muar district for violating the Immigration Act and Regulations,” Mohd Rusdi said in a statement on Thursday (Feb 12).
He said the 26 undocumented migrant workers, aged 19 to 48, were arrested during the raid at six premises, namely two factories, a minor construction site, a food court and two car wash outlets.
Mohd Rusdi added that the detainees comprised 10 Myanmar men, two Nepalese males, nine Bangladeshi men, two Myanmar females and three Indonesian women.
He said the undocumented foreign workers have committed offences under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
“They are now being placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot in Johor Baru for further action,” said Mohd Rusdi, adding that five summonses were issued to witnesses during the operation to assist with the investigation.
