KOTA TINGGI: A total of 78 foreigners were nabbed in a joint operation targeting undocumented migrant workers in Pengerang near here on Wednesday (Aug 18).
The operation, which from 11am until 4pm, involved the Johor Immigration Department and the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS).
“The operation targeted business premises run by illegal immigrants and their settlements," Johor Immigration Department director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said in a statement.
He said the businesses managed by foreigners were barber shops, car wash outlets, eateries, sundry shops and shop houses used as worker accommodation.
“The operation was conducted following complaints from the local community, intelligence gatherings and monitoring by both agencies," added Rusdi.
He said those detained were 30 Indonesian men, 24 Pakistani males, 10 Bangladeshi men, an Indian citizen man, six Myanmar men, a Myanmar woman and six Indonesian women.
“Those apprehended aged between 20 and 50 years old, working on the premises and residing in the shop houses," said Rusdi.
“The undocumented immigrants are now being detained at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot in Johor Baru and eight notices were issued to witnesses to assist with the investigation and further action," said Rusdi.
