ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have arrested a 56-year-old factory supervisor for allegedly hoisting both the Jalur Gemilang and the Johor state flag upside-down at an industrial estate here.
Iskandar Puteri acting OCPD Supt Saifullah Jaya@Yahaya said police launched an inspection at the factory in the Southern Industrial and Logistics Clusters (SiLC) in Gelang Patah after receiving a report on Wednesday (Aug 19).
Upon arrival, officers from the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters and the Gelang Patah police station found upside-down flags on two of the three flag poles in front of the premises.
"The suspect claimed the flags were raised on Tuesday (Aug 18) and maintained that it was done unintentionally," Supt Saifullah said in a statement on Tuesday (Aug 20), adding that police have seized both flags.
The case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief.
