PETALING JAYA: The proposed data centre project in Kota Damansara is off the table for now, after the developer withdrew its planning permission application to the Petaling Jaya City Council.
Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said he received the latest update on the matter from the local authority.
Ramanan, who is also Human Resources Minister, said this latest development shows that the voices and concerns of people, when raised through the proper channels, can yield tangible results.
"From the start, my position has been clear. I am not against development or investment. But for large-scale projects that could affect the residents' lives, the people must have a say.
"When they raise legitimate concerns, it is my responsibility as their elected representative to bring their voices to the authorities. We cannot compromise when it comes to the welfare of the people," he told Bernama Thursday (Aug 20).
On July 17, Ramanan made his stance clear in rejecting the proposed data centre project, saying the process lacked proper engagement with Kota Damansara residents.
He said any large-scale development must be transparent and responsible, with local community input and a thorough assessment of its surrounding impact.
He also stressed that any future development applications in Sungai Buloh must first involve engagement sessions with residents and stakeholders.
"Development and investment are important, but they must go hand in hand with the people's welfare. I will continue to monitor the situation and ensure the voices of Kota Damansara residents are heard, and their interests protected," he said. - Bernama
