Four remanded in Sabah over RM900,000 land sale bribery plot

KOTA KINABALU: A former customary officer, a civil servant, and two land brokers have been remanded over their alleged involvement in an RM900,000 bribery scheme involving unauthorised land sales.

The Keningau Magistrate's Court granted the remand application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) through Oct 27 to facilitate ongoing investigations. The four suspects, aged between their 30s and 60s, were arrested between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on Wednesday (Aug 19) after giving their statements at the Keningau MACC branch office.

According to sources, the illicit transactions took place in 2025. The former customary officer and civil servant allegedly accepted bribes from the two brokers to expedite sales transactions for land owned by an unsuspecting third party who had never offered the property for sale.

Sabah MACC Director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests on Thursday (Aug 20), stating that the case is being investigated under Section 17 and 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
