Six nabbed over alleged false claims for flight tickets worth RM1.3mil, says Sabah MACC

KOTA KINABALU: Four civil servants attached to a federal agency and two travel agency staff members were arrested in connection with false travel claims amounting to RM1.3mil.

It was learned that Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission detained the six individuals for their alleged involvement in submitting false claims for flight tickets.

Sources said the alleged purchase of flight tickets was made using air travel warrants that are suspected to be falsified.

They added that no flight tickets were issued by the company to the department’s officers and staff.

The suspects, aged between 30 and 50, were nabbed at the Sabah MACC office here at 9.30pm on Monday (Feb 9) after they turned up to give their statements.

Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

A remand application will be made at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Feb 10) to facilitate further investigation.

He said they expect to make further arrests in connection with their investigations.
