KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested three men believed to be linked to a viral video showing an alleged illegal racing activity on the Linkedua Expressway in Johor.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Comm Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said the three suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were detained following an operation by the department's intelligence and operations unit.
"The arrests were made at about 1.30am on Aug 26 at the parking area of a condominium in Sentul here.
"During the operation, all three suspects attempted to flee but were successfully detained by the police team," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 26).
Comm Muhammed Hasbullah said one of the suspects is believed to have participated as a motorcycle racer, while the other two were spectators.
He added that all three suspects have been taken to the Kulai Traffic Police Station in Johor for further investigation.
"The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) and Section 81(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
Comm Muhammed Hasbullah warned that police will continue taking stern action against individuals involved in illegal racing activities that risk the safety of other road users.
