Integrated health complex in Gerik will help ease people's burden, says Perak exco chairman

IPOH: The new health facility to be built in Gerik, Perak, would help ease the burden on the people, said Perak women, family, social welfare, cooperatives and entrepreneur development committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed.

She said access to healthcare had long been a major concern for the people in Gerik.

"One of the main problems in Gerik is access to medical treatment, especially specialist care, as residents have to travel to Taiping or Ipoh for such services.

"With the Budget 2027 announcement on the establishment of an integrated health complex in Gerik, I warmly welcome the initiative and thank the Federal Government. I hope it can be realised as soon as possible," she said.

Salbiah said this after the opening of the Perak state-level National Sports Day 2026 celebration at the State Youth and Sports Complex here on Saturday (Oct 10).

During the tabling of Budget 2027 on Friday (Oct 9), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said nine new health facilities would be built.

An integrated health complex in Gerik is among the new facilities planned. Others include a specialist clinic complex and day care centre at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor.

Also planned are a dental specialist centre in Kuching, Sarawak, and an integrated health complex in Rembau, Negri Sembilan.
